+ Alternitive energy on the Grid
Common public knowledge surrounding issues of global warming, sustainability, energy conservation and social and environmental responsibility is on the rise. Most of us are well aware of the turmoil of our environment; many of us are aware that our own actions are encouraging this turmoil. With all of this awareness there are many things people are doing to reduce our impact. Some are more conscious about leaving the lights on when we leave, recycling, car pooling, buying local and many other things. Here is another method to look into, that doesn't get as much publicity.
Renewable electricity -- offered through the same electrical grid you get your power from right now. I found one company in Canada who offers clean power to residents and businesses in Alberta and Onta
rio.
"Bullfrog Power provides Canadians with a convenient way to support locally generated renewable power. All of Bullfrog’s power comes from clean, green sources like wind power and low-impact water power. And all of our generators have received Environment Canada’s Environmental Choice Program EcoLogoM certification"
I was curious if there were any similar companies in the United States. There are lots of companies offering homes and businesses green electricity. If you are interested in buying green power for your home or business, you can visit the Green Power Network from the US department of energy. Here you can search your state and find companies that offer green power in your area.
You can also look and see who the largest buyers of green energy are, for example: FedEx Kinkos, HSBC Bank, IBM, Kohls, USPS, Hartford CT, and the State of NY for a few. If you don't see your state, university or business on the list, maybe you can send them a letter.
If more consumers bought their power this way, sustainable energy use will be encouraged, fossil fuel use will decline, and we will all take one step closer to a better *****
