+ Free Education

Berea College offers an entirely different perspective on what the cost of education should be. This small liberal arts work college in Berea Kentucky charges no tuition, and accepts only applicants from low-income families. Food for students comes from the local college farm, and the college sustains itself with the sale of handmade furniture from the college crafts workshops. Students work in both of these capacities and others as they hold required 10-hour-a-week campus jobs.

We like the sustainable model of the school, as well as their minimal, effective approach to higher education. It is also worth mentioning that Berea is the first college in the Southern United States to be coeducational and racially integrated.
